I downloaded the Nebraska Land Map. Really enjoy this one, huge fields and planting multiple fields at the same time sure keeps the mind occupied when it comes to harvest time.
I've noticed some things about this map that I'd like to change but playing on a laptop it seems Giants Editor does not like when I open that map to do mods or repairs to it, always crashes. Guessing my laptop can't handle it.
I have some ideas and was wondering if any of the guru mods out there would like to help me with some changes in the map, make it better but of course still giving credit where credit is due with the original designer as it is a great map.
They seemed to have left out a place to sell wool for starters. The wool pickup point is in a horrible place. The fake cows, thinking it could use less of those. The cow barns it seems there are four, would like to alter that. I can never figure out on this why there are not better fields for the cattle to roam. I have a huge grass field next to my cattle area that I thought about using for actual grazing cattle. Don't know how this would affect the game play though. The fences have collision set and I thought it sure could use some gates between fields. They have not set prices on potatoes or beets so I have a large supply of these that apparently I give away to ADM, lol!! I have been trying to work that out myself as I figure it must be in the script, somewhere??? A few of the fields need to have the elevation altered as well. Combines get stuck, run off course and then stop because they cannot make the steep incline. The chicken area, easy to pick up eggs except for the one that hovers high above the pen, floating in air. I can never seem to collect that one! They have fake trees you can drive thru, not bad and not sure if that really would need to be changed. Always thought real trees that could be cut and removed if you wanted would be a better option. I always noticed in the original Westbridge Hills map that my tractors and combines were getting stuck on annoying trees then found out they were permanent unless altered in GE...which I could not do on that map either. When I open the map with GE I start to zoom in or move to an area where I want to remove fence and then it happens, "GE quit working", then closes. I can modify and play around with vehicles just not the maps.
I have some 200 hours playing this map, yeah, I do have spare time upon occasion! Even with that I still come back to this map. I know it seems like a bum deal, my ideas, your work. If I could get GE to work I'd try and make it happen. At one point I'll upgrade to a desktop home built game computer, hopefully taking care of that problem with GE.
I don't if anybody would be interested in a collaboration with me on this but thought I would throw it out there and see. Full credits given to the original designer of course and whomever else for their efforts. As soon as I get GE working with maps I will attempt these on my own hopefully with help from more experienced folks here. I can do some very basic stuff but adding things and script is something I definitely need to work on.
Has anybody used that book "Modding for Dummies"? If so was it very helpful?

I enjoy this map as well. I would try contacting the owner, i think there is a support thread over at American Eagles Modding for NebraskaLand you could ask for permission there maybe in private message. I had to change some of the fences because they drove me nuts not enough openings to get into fields. Its always best to try and contact owner if they can be found.

Thanks musicman. I found it on modhub when I first started playing this game. It's good to know there might be some support and the American Eagles modding is new to me as well. Think I will have to check that out and see if there are updates or anything. Contact the owner, good info and will try that. Not wanting to make waves. If I could keep the GE from crashing I'd change what I could, learn how to do the other and just keep it between me and me. Thank you again!

I like to use the bigger equipment so I dont like maps that are tight squeezed and no room to drive around. Other maps you might try if you haven't already States, Manchester, Big Farm, and Texas Maps. States and Manchester might be hard on a basic computer to play. Theres always something on a map that is shared that dont please everyone. I generally dont like the standard halls or your standard grain elevators. Another good map is Canadian map. I like the ditches on the road sides. I guess its like home.

I downloaded the Canadian map but it won't open, might be the laptop. I did grab the States map from AEM(great site and thanks for that info, found the Nebraska land creator there). The States map is my new favorite, place is gigantic! I've found little things I don't like in all of them but have found lots of mods for silage and other things that make working the "farm" better.
I'm the same way, like the 9230, quad track New Holland, 15M cultivators and running multiple machines on a field trying to jockey trucks and trailers in several fields to gather everything before it wilts. Played Bjornholm for a few hours and after playing the big maps a big yield on a field there was tiny. All the trucks I have downloaded I've stretched the frames for fun, not to ridiculous proportions but similar to what I've seen on the highways, small farms would be impossible with my fleet! I'll have to try and get the Canadian map from here. Got it from another site before I found Open Source and I'm sure it wasn't posted there by the original creator so there is no telling what was done to it.

The version 3 map has soil mod and caused bunch of errors in my log. Probually on my end cause im still learning about soil mod and dont have it setup propely. You can find version 1 or 2 on modholster or modhub pretty easily.

Will do, thanks musicman. The States map has the soil mod as well but didn't add it and running well. Just didn't think I was ready for that mod yet! I'll check on earlier versions, stuck on the States map right now though, much fun!
