Mission
Our goal is to stem the tide of private mods in the FS community by 1. Promoting the development of skills related to mod editing, 2. Encouraging constructive criticism on the part of all members, and 3. Advocating for the release of any and all worthwhile edits of mods as public items for full community enjoyment provided that those mods are not clearly labeled as no-public-edit, not private mods taken from someone else's collection, and not full of errors, modeling inaccuracies, or other problems.
Goals
At OpenSourceFS, we don't want to replace the forums that have brought us to where we are today, but we do want to be a niche market focusing on a field larger forums are too big to handle.
Vision
Our vision is to promote the release of more mods to the FS world starting with public edits, and going further into from-scratch projects and script releases.
What We Are Not:
OpenSourceFS is not the place to call out your online enemies, it is not the place to badmouth other forums, and it is not the place to look down on other modders.
It is also not the place to upload mods without proper credits or take credit for work you did not do. If you have a problem with something, someone, or some group that is not a direct part of this forum, take those problems elsewhere.
We will not tolerate posts regarding how great this forum is or is not in comparison to other FS forums. We are not intending to compete with any other forum, but as has been said elsewhere, we are striving to strike a balance between respect and release.
There is a large community of editors out there releasing mods without proper credits, and we in no way are attempting to be a part of that community. We are striving to be a place where legitimate, credit-given edits can be uploaded for the entire community to enjoy, and we will not allow ourselves to be sidetracked from that goal by childishness, fights, or general misbehavior.
Rules
1. No fighting. Discussions are welcome, even heated ones, but swearing, name-calling, and general rudeness will not be tolerated.
2. No harassment. If you feel that someone's edit is not worthwhile, feel free to give constructive criticism, but hatred directed towards one
or more people will not be tolerated.
3. No vulgar images. If you wouldn't show it to a six-year-old, don't post it here. Most of us are
Adults, but that doesn't mean we want to see obscene images.
4. No swearing. The word filter is there for a reason: if you can't express yourself without using FCC-banned language, find a thesaurus. Any attempts to evade the word filter will result in discipline
5. No unpermitted releases: if you have a private mod from someone else's collection, no matter how you got it, DO NOT release it on here. If we can verify that your release was of someone else's private work, you will see the door.
6. No releases of no-public-edit mods: in order not to cause problems with the community, if you see that the mod you are attempting to release has been "protected" under Creative Commons, don't release it on here. Whether or not such protection has legal standing doesn't matter: we are not in the business of starting virtual wars.
7. Use the "Respect and Release System": if you know the mod you are uploading has 10 credits, don't submit yours with 9. Include any and all authors of the original mod in your release description, whether or not you think they did anything for the original project.
8. Meaningful Reskins Only. Do not waste the time of your fellow modders and gamers with reskins of a John Deere 7530 to a Claas Axion and any similar impossibilities. If it wouldn't happen in real life, don't try to release it here. Real-life mutli-brand products are welcome (ie: Case IH and New Holland headers), however.
9. Meaningful Edits Only: If you have made a major change to a mod (AO textures, error-free script, new features, washable skin, etc), we will be happy to have those. But do not attempt to upload mod edits that are not distinguisable from the original project. We want as few good quality mods as possible.
10. Post in the right section, report problems, have fun! If you see a mod you made uploaded on here without proper credits or publicly released on here as a no-public edit mod, please report it. If you have a problem with a rule or something else forum related, PM an admin. If you have a question, search for the answer before you post. We are in this together, but we need your cooperation to make this work! Thank you from the Open Source FS team.
11. No link begging, No mod requests, No trading of WIP mods
We are Editors, Not No-credit-ors!
